And the only prescription is more baseball.<\/p>\n<p>Football is over, March Madness is still weeks away, and the NBA season has been about as exciting as watching\u00a0your mother shop for window treatments.<\/p>\n<p>Fear not, sports rubes and suntan seekers, there&#8217;s a light at the end of that tunnel.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cactusleague.com\/index.php\" >2010 Cactus League<\/a> season.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1956\" title=\"grady\" src=\"http:\/\/www.downtownphoenix.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/02\/grady.jpg\" alt=\"grady\" width=\"199\" height=\"249\" \/>I can almost smell that seductive fragrance that is one part SPF-50, one part Polish sausage, and four parts\u00a0beer. I want to fall asleep in the outfield at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peoriaaz.com\/sportscomplex\/sportscomplex_main.asp\" >Peoria Sports Complex<\/a>, perform advanced scouting for my numerous\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.statepress.com\/node\/10925\" >fantasy baseball <\/a>teams, ask Reds&#8217; first baseman\u00a0Joey Votto to sign my son&#8217;s baseball even though I&#8217;m completely childless, and I want to befriend Dodgers fans only to give them horrible directions back to their hotel.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a glorious time of the year, when the sun shines bright every day and\u00a030 teams have\u00a0a shot at the World Series.<\/p>\n<p>2010 might be your last\u00a0chance to see the Cubs play at <a href=\"http:\/\/hohokamstadium.com\/Home.aspx\" >HoHoKam Stadium <\/a>in Mesa.\u00a0Mayor Scott Smith\u00a0is currently <a href=\"http:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/members\/Blog\/DanBickley\/72539\" >embroiled\u00a0in a tug-of-war\u00a0with Naples, Fla., <\/a>to secure the\u00a0team&#8217;s Spring Training\u00a0address and all the economic windfalls that come with it.\u00a0This will also be the last season you can road-trip to Tucson to watch the Diamondbacks and Rockies play at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kinosportscomplex.com\/\" >Tucson Electric Park<\/a>; those teams move into <a href=\"http:\/\/arizona.diamondbacks.mlb.com\/news\/press_releases\/press_release.jsp?ymd=20090716&amp;content_id=5891404&amp;vkey=pr_ari&amp;fext=.jsp&amp;c_id=ari\" >swanky new Scottsdale digs <\/a>in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>The Cactus League now boasts 15 teams and is no longer the pesky younger sibling to Florida&#8217;s\u00a0Grapefruit League. And with aggressive\u00a0expansion has come some\u00a0awe-inspiring\u00a0new facilities, including <a href=\"http:\/\/camelbackranchbaseball.com\/\" >Camelback Ranch<\/a>, home to the Dodgers and White Sox, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.surprisespringtraining.com\/\" >Surprise Stadium<\/a>, home to the Rangers and Royals, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.goodyearaz.gov\/index.aspx?NID=1119\" >Goodyear Ballpark<\/a>, home to Ohio&#8217;s Indians and Reds.\u00a0Combine those megaplexes with the traditional, more quaint venues like the Giants&#8217;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.scottsdaleaz.gov\/stadium.asp\" >Scottsdale Stadium<\/a>, Athletics&#8217;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.phoenix.gov\/SPORTS\/phxmuni.html\" >Phoenix Municipal Stadium<\/a>, Brewers&#8217; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.phoenix.gov\/SPORTS\/marystad.html\" >Maryvale\u00a0Baseball Park<\/a>\u00a0and Angels&#8217;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tempe.gov\/diablo\/\" >Tempe Diablo Stadium<\/a>, and the Cactus League offers baseball fans everything\u00a0they could possibly want&#8211;most of it located 40 minutes or less away from Downtown.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Pitchers and catchers have already reported and games begin the first week in March so you best make ticket arrangement pronto. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And make sure to\u00a0load up on sunscreen.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/~r\/DowntownPhoenixBlog\/~4\/yXaJGBxrlrE\" height=\"1\" width=\"1\"\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve got a fever.
