{"id":336691,"date":"2010-02-18T18:26:12","date_gmt":"2010-02-18T23:26:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chicagopressrelease.com\/press-releases\/infomercial-king-avoids-jail-for-now"},"modified":"2010-02-18T18:26:12","modified_gmt":"2010-02-18T23:26:12","slug":"infomercial-king-avoids-jail-for-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/336691","title":{"rendered":"Infomercial king avoids jail, for now"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CHICAGO\u00a0(STMW)\u00a0 &#8212; Informercial and Internet health &#8220;cures&#8221; pitchman Kevin Trudeau won&#8217;t go to jail, for now.<\/p>\n<p>\nAn appeals court granted Trudeau&#8217;s emergency appeal Thursday and said it will hear it next week.<\/p>\n<p>\nTrudeau appealed after a federal judge in Chicago ordered him to surrender this afternoon to serve a 30-day jail sentence for criminal contempt of court for urging supporters to flood the judge with e-mails.<\/p>\n<p>\nTrudeau filed his appearl Wednesday night after U.S. District Judge Robert Gettleman sentenced him to 30 days in prison after previously finding Trudeau in direct criminal contempt of court.<\/p>\n<p>\nThat finding came after Trudeau supporters deluged the judge with 300 e-mails, locking up Gettleman\u2019s e-mail system and shutting down his BlackBerry for part of the day last week.<\/p>\n<p>\n\u201cThis was an attempt by Mr. <span id=\"more-20087\"><\/span>Trudeau to harass, intimidate and influence the court,\u201d Gettleman said.<\/p>\n<p>\nHe said Trudeau posted the judge\u2019s e-mail address online and asked listeners of his radio show and those who visit his Web site to e-mail Gettleman.
