{"id":339111,"date":"2010-02-19T09:46:50","date_gmt":"2010-02-19T14:46:50","guid":{"rendered":"Gizmodo-5475540"},"modified":"2010-02-19T09:46:50","modified_gmt":"2010-02-19T14:46:50","slug":"more-evidence-next-macbook-pros-use-nvidias-power-saving-optimus-graphics-tech-rumor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/339111","title":{"rendered":"More Evidence Next MacBook Pros Use Nvidia&#8217;s Power-Saving Optimus Graphics Tech [Rumor]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a rel=\"lytebox\" href=\"http:\/\/cache.gawkerassets.com\/assets\/images\/4\/2010\/02\/colorful-iron-man-macbook-decal_1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cache.gawkerassets.com\/assets\/images\/4\/2010\/02\/500x_colorful-iron-man-macbook-decal_1.jpg\" class=\"left image500\" width=\"500\" \/><\/a>Looks like <a href=\"http:\/\/gizmodo.com\/5436465\/whats-inside-the-next-macbooks\">our hunches<\/a> about <a href=\"http:\/\/gizmodo.com\/5440620\/nvidia-optimus-the-secret-to-the-new-macbook-guts\">what&#8217;s inside<\/a> the next MacBook Pros are panning out: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.appleinsider.com\/articles\/10\/02\/19\/apple_plans_dual_graphics_enhancements_on_future_macbook_pros.html\">AppleInsider hears<\/a> that Apple&#8217;s got new MacBook Pros running that can switch between integrated and discrete graphics automagically, which exactly describes <a href=\"http:\/\/gizmodo.com\/5467206\/nvidia-optimus-switches-seamlessly-between-amped-up-and-power+sipping-graphics\">Nvidia&#8217;s Optimus dual graphics tech<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you remember, the unibody MacBooks from Oct. 2008 were <a href=\"http:\/\/gizmodo.com\/5063832\/giz-explains-why-does-the-new-macbook-pro-have-two-graphics-cards\">the first to use Nvidia&#8217;s GeForce 9400M<\/a>, a combination chipset\/integrated GPU that ridiculously outperformed Intel&#8217;s own integrated graphics, and the Pro models at the time could switch between power-saving integrated and beefier discrete graphics, though it requires a logout.<\/p>\n<p>Nvidia got cockblocked from making chipsets for Intel&#8217;s latest-gen chips (read: Core i3, Core i5, Core i7), ruling out using Nvidia&#8217;s better integrated graphics; Nvidia canned their chipset business entirely. So! Nvidia&#8217;s Optimus tech works with Intel&#8217;s crappier integrated graphics that are built onto the same die as the newer Core processors, but even more seamlessly than before&mdash;the computer automatically switches between Intel&#8217;s power-sipping integrated and Nvidia&#8217;s monster discrete graphics, depending on what you&#8217;re doing. No logouts required.<\/p>\n<p>In the demo we saw on a Windows machine, the automatic part of the tech has some drawbacks&mdash;namely, it&#8217;s entirely dependent on software to tell your computer which graphics card to run. But Apple&#8217;s obviously worked pretty closely with Nvidia on graphics before, so it seems logical they&#8217;re doing so here, too. Though I don&#8217;t expect we&#8217;ll know until the new MacBooks finally arrive, <a href=\"http:\/\/gizmodo.com\/5473615\/apple-skus-turn-up-on-canadian-best-buy-system-purportedly-showing-macbook-pros--imacs\">whenever that happens<\/a> (hopefully, soon).
