{"id":339544,"date":"2010-02-19T11:24:53","date_gmt":"2010-02-19T16:24:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/liveshots.blogs.foxnews.com\/?p=12013"},"modified":"2010-02-19T11:24:53","modified_gmt":"2010-02-19T16:24:53","slug":"study-medicare-advantage-price-spike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/339544","title":{"rendered":"Study: Medicare Advantage Price Spike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A study released today says if you use Medicare Advantage to help pay for your prescription drugs,\u00a0you&#8217;re getting\u00a0a hefty hike in your premiums this year.<\/p>\n<p>Avalere Health, a DC Consulting firm, estimates that the cost of the average Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug Plan is jumping 14.2 percent in 2010.\u00a0 About 8.5 million\u00a0elderly and\u00a0disabled Americans use the popular private plan\u00a0to supplement their\u00a0government Medicare coverage.<\/p>\n<p>Avalere estimates the average premium will\u00a0go from\u00a0$39.61 per month up from $34.69 last year, an increase of almost $5.<\/p>\n<p>This predicted\u00a0jump follows a cut in government payments to the private companies last year and\u00a0could make things even tougher for Democrats&#8217; efforts to pass health care reform.\u00a0\u00a0Some bills\u00a0now circulating in\u00a0Congress\u00a0would cut those payments again which could affect premiums next year.<\/p>\n<p>However, Administration officials counter that\u00a0any increase in premium payments\u00a0facing Americans is another\u00a0reason that there needs to be comprehensive\u00a0reform &#8211; to bring down everyone&#8217;s health care costs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A study released today says if you use Medicare Advantage to help pay for your prescription drugs,\u00a0you&#8217;re getting\u00a0a hefty hike in your premiums this year.
