{"id":341945,"date":"2010-02-19T23:41:40","date_gmt":"2010-02-20T04:41:40","guid":{"rendered":"tag:typepad.com,2003:post-6a00d8341c630a53ef01310f20514a970c"},"modified":"2010-02-19T23:41:40","modified_gmt":"2010-02-20T04:41:40","slug":"usc-national-science-foundation-plan-collaboration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/341945","title":{"rendered":"USC, National Science Foundation plan collaboration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Science Foundation and USC&#8217;s School of Cinematic Arts announced a new partnership Friday that will help scientists work with media professionals to help the public understand science.<\/p>\n<p>The collaboration, which is the first of its kind, will combine the science foundation&#8217;s scientific background\u00a0 and USC&#8217;s artistic knowledge, said Elizabeth Daley, dean of the university&#8217;s School of Cinematic Arts. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The facility will be dubbed the Creative Science Studio and will be based at USC\u2019s downtown L.A. campus. It will open in the fall.\n<\/p>\n<p>The science foundation and USC made the announcement Friday at the annual meeting of the American Assn. for the Advancement of Science in San Diego.<\/p>\n<p>Daley said the partnership is a unique opportunity to use the skills of film, television and interactive media majors to help the public understand science.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cScience is so often unintelligible to the average person,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The partnership will allow researchers to create engaging outreach products, such as videos, and provide student entertainment producers with access to state-of-the-art resources to enhance depictions of science.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;Nicole Santa Cruz <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Science Foundation and USC&#8217;s School of Cinematic Arts announced a new partnership Friday that will help scientists work with media professionals to help the public understand science.
