{"id":346886,"date":"2010-02-21T16:57:39","date_gmt":"2010-02-21T21:57:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/liveshots.blogs.foxnews.com\/?p=12280"},"modified":"2010-02-21T16:57:39","modified_gmt":"2010-02-21T21:57:39","slug":"bayh-wants-more-practical-problem-solving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/346886","title":{"rendered":"Bayh Wants More Practical Problem Solving"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Heidi Noonan<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">Senator Evan Bayh wants \u201cless partisanship, less ideology, and more\u00a0<span style=\"color: black\">practical problem solving\u201d within the marble hallways of Capitol Hill. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\"><span style=\"color: black\">The<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: black\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;color: black\">Democratic Indiana senator who recently decided not to seek a third term,<\/span><span style=\"color: black\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;color: black\">stopped by<\/span><span style=\"color: black\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;color: black\">Fox News<\/span><span style=\"color: black\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;color: black\">cameras Sunday morning to talk about the president\u2019s upcoming health care summit, what needs to change on Capitol Hill, and his next steps. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;color: black\">Monday the White House<\/span><span style=\"color: black\"> <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;color: black\">is expected to post their plan for comprehensive health care reform on the Internet and Thursday the president will host a highly anticipated televised bipartisan heath care summit. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;color: black\">But with Congressional leadership at an apparent standstill, can progress be achieved?\u00a0 Bayh is optimistic saying, \u201cI know the president is making a sincere effort. But it does take two to tango. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;color: black\">The Republicans need to check some of their partisan political interests at the door, the Democrats need to check some of their ideologies and predispositions at the door\u2026The atmosphere is so poisonous right now, it won&#8217;t be easy, but the president is showing real leadership right now, bringing the sides together.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;color: black\">GOP leaders in the House and Senate are cautious of the president\u2019s health care summit calling it a possible<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\"> \u201ctrap.\u201d\u00a0 Senator Bayh balked at the idea saying he was amused, \u201cCan you imagine what he would be\u00a0<span style=\"color: black\">saying if he (the president<\/span>) was refusing to talk to them?\u00a0 All parties, the Democrats and Republicans in Congress, the\u00a0<span style=\"color: black\">p<\/span>resident, need to come there, make a sincere effort on live television, to discuss these issues and to come up with a compromise.\u00a0 If they do that, I think progress is still possible.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">So how can Republicans and Democrats come together and fix what appears to be broken in Washington? \u00a0Bayh said Republicans still need to be a part of the process, \u201cThe Republican party has an advantage going into the November elections, they think momentum is heading their way, so they are going to be tempted to just do nothing.\u00a0 That\u2019s not right for the country.\u201d\u00a0 But Democrats are also to blame, \u201cIn our party we have some very well meaning people, who from time to time aren&#8217;t willing to compromise on their beliefs, their driven a little too much by ideology. They need to be more practical.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">On CNN\u2019s State of the Union, Senator Bayh was asked why he decided not to run for another term.\u00a0 He responded saying he is, \u201can executive at heart, and I am hopeful that we can reform Congress.\u00a0 But I did not want to wait around six years hoping that would happen.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">\u201cMy wife is asking me that question, and I\u00a0<span style=\"color: black\">don\u2019t know\u201d he told Fox after the interview about his next steps.\u00a0 He still plans to serve saying, \u201cOnly in Washington would someone think the only way, or even the best way to serve your country<\/span> is by perpetually running for office. \u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">There are other ways to make difference, to help the American people.\u00a0 That&#8217;s what I intend to do.\u00a0 I found that I can make a bigger difference as an executive than legislator.\u201d\u00a0 In<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">Bayh\u2019s<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">statement<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">issued<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">February 15th, he<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">gave many possible job opportunities:<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: 10pt\">\u201cI<\/span> <span lang=\"EN\">can best contribute to society in another way: creating jobs by helping grow a business, helping guide an institution of higher learning, or helping run a worthy charitable endeavor.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Heidi Noonan Senator Evan Bayh wants \u201cless partisanship, less ideology, and more\u00a0practical problem solving\u201d within the marble hallways of Capitol Hill.
