Times: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/news\/nation-and-world\/la-na-cpac21-2010feb21,0,5169365.story\">Glenn Beck to Republican Party: Repent.<\/a>&#8220;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And on and on. If you only skimmed those headlines, you&#8217;d think that Beck went boldly into the belly of the beast, and had some kind of Sister Souljah moment.<\/p>\n<p>Except Beck didn&#8217;t do that. He blew smoke up the CPAC audience&#8217;s white asses by simply reciting, verbatim, exactly the same tired spiel Republican leaders have been parroting nonstop since they lost control of Congress in 2006.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2010\/02\/20\/AR2010022004046.html?hpid=topnews\">Beck said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class='wbq'>\n<p>&#8220;I voted Republican almost every time,&#8221; he said, and &#8220;<strong>I don&#8217;t even know what they stand for anymore<\/strong>. And they&#8217;ve got to realize that they have a problem: &#8216;<strong>Hello, my name is the Republican Party, and I&#8217;ve got a problem. I&#8217;m addicted to spending and big government.<\/strong>&#8216;&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>So Republicans are losing elections because they&#8217;re insufficiently conservative. Never heard that before!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com\/2007\/06\/05\/thompson-washington-changed-us\/?fbid=7QCutp7VWyl\">Tommy Thompson<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class='wbq'>\n<p><strong>If we&#8217;re going to spend money foolishly, and as stupidly as the Democrats, the voters are going to vote for the professional spenders, the Democrats<\/strong>. Not the amateur spenders, the Republicans.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.time.com\/time\/columnist\/klein\/article\/0,9565,1587193,00.html\">Paul Ryan<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class='wbq'>\n<p>The leaders asked the caucus why we thought we&#8217;d lost our majority. Was it the war in Iraq? About a third of the hands went up. Was it corruption? About a dozen hands. <strong>Was it that we&#8217;d lost our way on spending and the need for small government?<\/strong> <strong>The majority of hands went up &#8230; The American people came to believe that we&#8217;re the party of Big Government. That&#8217;s why they threw us out.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div id=\"TixyyLink\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/04\/17\/us\/politics\/17mccain.html\">John McCain<\/a>:<\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<div class='wbq'>\n<div>Senator John McCain of Arizona acknowledged Monday <strong>that his fellow Republicans \u201cforgot who we were\u201d in recent years by spending too much<\/strong>, and said that as president he would rely on low taxes, greater fiscal restraint and free trade to lift the nation\u2019s economy.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2009\/POLITICS\/02\/24\/sotn.jindal.transcript\/\">Bobby Jindal<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class='wbq'>\n<p>In recent years, these distinctions in philosophy became less clear &#8212; <strong>our party got away from its principles<\/strong>. <strong>You elected Republicans to champion limited government, fiscal discipline and personal responsibility. Instead, Republicans went along with earmarks and big government spending in Washington<\/strong>. Republicans lost your trust &#8212; and rightly so.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Ask yourself: is it possible to &#8220;scold&#8221; or &#8220;thump&#8221; someone when you&#8217;re lovingly reciting their talking points? Probably not.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, Beck called progressivism <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.newsweek.com\/blogs\/thegaggle\/archive\/2010\/02\/22\/glenn-beck-and-the-fox-puppets-want-to-repeal-the-20th-century.aspx\">a &#8220;cancer&#8221; on America which needs to be &#8220;eradicated.<\/a>&#8221; So he pretty much bashed both sides equally.<\/p>\n<p>[\/Dana Milbank]<\/p>\n<p class=\"akst_link\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/firedoglake.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/share-this\/share-icon-16x16.gif\" alt=\"Share This icon\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/firedoglake.com\/?p=68665&amp;akst_action=share-this\"  title=\"Email, post to del.icio.us, etc.\" id=\"akst_link_68665\" class=\"akst_share_link\" rel=\"noindex nofollow\">&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>He knows his GOP talking points.
