One of the most important documents you\u2019ll need is your <a href=\"http:\/\/answers.usa.gov\/cgi-bin\/gsa_ict.cfg\/php\/enduser\/std_adp.php?p_faqid=1397\" title=\"W-2 form\">W-2 form<\/a>. We always hear from a lot of people who didn\u2019t get their W-2\u2019s and don\u2019t know what to do. So if you haven\u2019t received your W-2 yet, read on.<\/p>\n<p>Your employer is required to give you copies of your W-2 form by January 31.  If that didn\u2019t happen, the first thing you should do is contact the employer and see if you can resolve the issue together.  If that didn\u2019t work and you still don\u2019t have your W-2, then it\u2019s time to contact the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.irs.gov\" title=\"IRS (Internal Revenue Service)\">IRS (Internal Revenue Service)<\/a>. They\u2019ll ask you for some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.irs.gov\/taxtopics\/tc154.html\" title=\"information\">information<\/a> and then they\u2019ll contact the employer and request the form.<\/p>\n<p>Did you know that even if your employer doesn\u2019t provide the W-2 form in time, you\u2019re still required to file forms with the IRS?  Yep.  Things start to get a little tricky at this point, so if you\u2019re in that position you should check with the IRS to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.irs.gov\/newsroom\/article\/0,,id=106470,00.html\" title=\"be sure you file the correct forms\">be sure you file the correct forms<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And just so you know, the rules are pretty similar if you did receive a W-2 from your employer, but it was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.irs.gov\/faqs\/faq\/0,,id=199593,00.html\" title=\"incorrect\">incorrect<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I wish you a happy tax season and a hefty return!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s tax season once again, and time to gather all the forms and tax records you\u2019ll need to file your tax return.
