\"Captain<\/img><\/a> Fans decked out in futuristic garb formed a line early
\nTuesday to see the return of the Michael Jackson film "Captain EO" to Disneyland
\nafter a 13-year hiatus.<\/p>\n

At 10 a.m., the 17-minute, science fiction-themed musical returns
\nto the Tomorrowland Theater for limited engagement. It replaces "Honey I Shrunk
\nthe Audience," which closed Jan. 3.<\/p>\n

"Captain EO" debuted at the height of Jackson\u2019s fame in
\n1986, featuring director Francis Ford Coppola and\u00a0 executive producer George Lucas. It cost a reported $30 million to make and ran as an attraction at
\nthe theme park until 1997.<\/p>\n

Fans began lobbying
\nfor the return<\/a> of the 3-D film soon after Jackson\u2019s death last year, saying
\nit would honor the King of Pop. <\/p>\n

The Times’ Brady McDonald, writing at the Daily
\nTravel & Deal blog<\/a>, says the return of Captain EO \u201cpresents a
\nperplexing challenge to family-centric Disney: How to market a movie relic
\nstarring a controversial character without appearing to capitalize on his
\ndemise.\u201d<\/p>\n

The film stars Jackson as a captain leading a crew of
\naliens, robots and "fuzzball" on a spaceship on a mission to deliver
\na gift to a wicked alien witch played by Anjelica Huston.<\/p>\n

A Disney spokeswoman told
\nKTLA<\/a> that there was no timeline for how long the show would run, but said it
\nwould stay for as long as it remained popular. <\/p>\n
