\nranger escaped an attack by a Komodo dragon<\/a>, the world’s largest lizard
\nspecies, when his colleagues heard his cries for help and drove the
\nreptile away.<\/p>\n
\noutside his hut on Komodo Islan<\/a>d late Monday when a nearly 7-foot-long \u00a0
\ndragon grabbed hold of his right foot, Komodo
\nNational Park chief Tamen Sitorus said.<\/p>\n
\ndragon had Subanghadir’s foot clamped in its shark-like, serrated teeth
\nuntil fellow rangers heard his screams and drove it off with wooden
\nclubs, Sitorus said.<\/p>\n
\ndragons can be found in the wild only on the eastern Indonesian islands
\nof Komodo, Padar and Rinca. The lizards — thought to number fewer than
\n4,000 — can grow longer than 10 feet and weigh 150 pounds.<\/p>\n
