{"id":358046,"date":"2010-02-24T11:17:16","date_gmt":"2010-02-24T16:17:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/liveshots.blogs.foxnews.com\/?p=12545"},"modified":"2010-02-24T11:17:16","modified_gmt":"2010-02-24T16:17:16","slug":"gm-ford-luring-toyota-drivers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/358046","title":{"rendered":"GM, Ford luring Toyota drivers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One company&#8217;s recall can be another company&#8217;s windfall.\u00a0 At least that&#8217;s what carmakers are hoping in the wake of Toyota&#8217;s recall of 8.5 million vehicles and\u00a0brutal Congressional hearings.<\/p>\n<p>General Motors and Ford have both offered $1,000 discounts on their models for drivers who trade in a Toyota.\u00a0 But besides some local dealers taking out newspaper ads, the two American companies haven&#8217;t exactly been crowing about the deals.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s because\u00a0it&#8217;s a delicate\u00a0balance for car companies, knowing that Toyota&#8217;s problems today could potentially be theirs tomorrow.\u00a0 Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood told a House panel on Tuesday, &#8220;Look at the statistics.\u00a0 Over the last three years, [we&#8217;ve seen] 23 million\u00a0[recalls] of automobiles as a result of our investigations.\u00a0 And the vast majority were not Toyota.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But statistics aren&#8217;t grabbing the headlines; stories of car crashes and run-away Toyotas are.\u00a0\u00a0That&#8217;s\u00a0changing the minds of\u00a0some drivers, according to a Kelley Blue Book survey\u00a0done in early February.\u00a0 The survey shows\u00a0more than a\u00a0quarter of drivers considering a Toyota before the recalls have now changed their minds.<\/p>\n<p>Toyota&#8217;s competitors are ready to scoop up those potential buyers.\u00a0 That same Kelley Blue Book survey showed Chevy drivers&#8217; loyalty went up 6.5% and\u00a0Ford&#8217;s increased by 4.6% during the same time period.\u00a0 Honda also jumped in the survey, giving it the most loyal customer base.<\/p>\n<p>All these manufacturers know that&#8217;s where the car game is won and lost &#8211; locking in future customers.\u00a0 After\u00a0a dismal few years for\u00a0vehicle sales, GM and Ford are hoping discounts and solid products will increase their piece of the sales pie.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One company&#8217;s recall can be another company&#8217;s windfall.\u00a0 At least that&#8217;s what carmakers are hoping in the wake of Toyota&#8217;s recall of 8.5 million vehicles and\u00a0brutal Congressional hearings.
