{"id":358805,"date":"2010-02-24T15:14:59","date_gmt":"2010-02-24T20:14:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chicagopressrelease.com\/press-releases\/house-panel-oks-question-on-abolishing-no-2-post"},"modified":"2010-02-24T15:14:59","modified_gmt":"2010-02-24T20:14:59","slug":"house-panel-oks-question-on-abolishing-no-2-post","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/358805","title":{"rendered":"House panel OKs question on abolishing No. 2 post"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An Illinois House committee has approved a plan to allow voters to decide whether to abolish the state&#8217;s No. 2 post.<\/p>\n<p>House Speaker Michael Madigan says the position of lieutenant governor is unnecessary.<\/p>\n<p>His proposed constitutional amendment would go before voters in November.<\/p>\n<p>The Chicago Democrat says he&#8217;d been considering the move before Scott Lee Cohen won the Democratic nomination in February. <span id=\"more-21187\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Cohen resigned after questions about past allegations of domestic battery and steroids use.<\/p>\n<p>The House Executive Committee voted 8-0 today to move the idea to the House floor.<\/p>\n<p>Three Republicans voted &#8220;present.&#8221; They say the amendment should wait.
