{"id":359957,"date":"2010-02-24T14:22:55","date_gmt":"2010-02-24T19:22:55","guid":{"rendered":"tag:consumerist.com,2010:\/\/1.10002533"},"modified":"2010-02-24T14:23:31","modified_gmt":"2010-02-24T19:23:31","slug":"am-i-going-to-be-required-to-get-government-health-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/359957","title":{"rendered":"Am I Going To Be Required To Get Government Health Care?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/consumerist.com\/assets_c\/2010\/02\/big-brother-insurance-thumb-300x218-37399.jpg\">         <\/p>\n<p>Every time the topic of <a href=\"http:\/\/consumerist.com\/2010\/02\/obama-wants-to-include-coverage-for-31-million-uninsured-people-in-health-care-plan.html\">national health care comes up<\/a>, the prophets of doom put on their black cloaks and start their chants of &#8220;Big Brother,&#8221; &#8220;socialism&#8221; and &#8220;move to Finland,&#8221; painting a picture of a bleak, Orwellian future where baritone-voiced Death Panels decide your fate on a punch card that then gets sent through a pneumatic tube to the waiting Euthanasia Agent. But our smarter, better-looking kin over at Consumer Reports claim it&#8217;s not all that bleak.<\/p>\n<p>They point out that none of the proposed plans create any new government programs, meaning you&#8217;ll get your health coverage from exactly the same sources they do today.  <\/p>\n<p>All that&#8217;s being proposed is a &#8220;mixture of new public and private financing to help make private coverage affordable to the tens of millions who can&#8217;t pay for it today, and introduce important new consumer protections.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the government would provide new tax credits to help middle and lower income families purchase private insurance if they don&#8217;t have access to coverage from their employers.  <\/p>\n<blockquote><p>If you are tempted to point to this as a government takeover of health care, be careful!
