{"id":360814,"date":"2010-02-25T09:00:01","date_gmt":"2010-02-25T14:00:01","guid":{"rendered":"http%3A%2F%2Fwwf.org.au%2Fnews%2Faustralian-government-provides-whale-cut-through%2F"},"modified":"2010-02-25T09:00:01","modified_gmt":"2010-02-25T14:00:01","slug":"australian-government-provides-whale-cut-through","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/360814","title":{"rendered":"Australian Government provides whale cut through"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WWF today praised the announcement from Environment Minister Peter Garrett that Australia will push the <a href=\"http:\/\/iwcoffice.org\/\">IWC<\/a> to end whaling in the Southern Ocean and advance the cause of whale conservation worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>Rob Nicoll, <a href=\"http:\/\/wwf.org.au\/ourwork\/oceans\/antarctica\/\">Antarctic and Southern Ocean<\/a> Initiative Manager with WWF-Australia said:<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Australia has produced an excellent proposal that cuts through the doublespeak of the IWC proposal put forward earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;WWF supports the government&#8217;s position. Their proposal recognises that the status of whale populations is significantly depleted.
