{"id":361751,"date":"2010-02-25T08:53:33","date_gmt":"2010-02-25T13:53:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chicagopressrelease.com\/press-releases\/mokena-again-bans-sidewalk-blocking"},"modified":"2010-02-25T08:53:33","modified_gmt":"2010-02-25T13:53:33","slug":"mokena-again-bans-sidewalk-blocking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/361751","title":{"rendered":"Mokena again bans sidewalk blocking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><h3><\/h3>\n<\/p>\n<p>Just four months after easing its parking rules to allow drivers to block sidewalks when parked in their driveways, Mokena has banned the practice once again. <\/p>\n<p>Mokena officials recently discovered that allowing public sidewalks to be blocked is a potential violation of the federal Americans with Disabilities Act, Police Chief Randy Rajewski said. <\/p>\n<p>The village initially changed its parking ordinance in the fall to allow residents to block sidewalks at any time from November through April and from 9 p.m. <span id=\"more-21260\"><\/span>to 7 p.m. from May through October. <\/p>\n<p>Several factors prompted the change,  winter street parking restrictions, extra family members moving home because of the recession and short driveways that fit just one car in many neighborhoods, officials said at the time. <\/p>\n<p>With the restrictions back in place, officials said they&#8217;ll try to work with residents during bad snowstorms or other unusual circumstances.
