CNN &#8212; which is already losing droves of viewers to the conservative FOX News Channel &#8212; is in even deeper dog doo after officials at the Coney Island History Project pulled a fast one on the cable network. &#8220;Archaeologists&#8221; for the group claimed to have found an ancient hot dog encased in ice beneath a restaurant on Brooklyn&#8217;s Coney Island. The History Project even put the &#8220;ancient&#8221; frankfurter on display, claiming  it was unearthed during the demolition of the historic Feltman\u2019s Kitchen, home of the world&#8217;s first hot dog.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-94514\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Turns out it was all just one <a href=\"http:\/\/www.inquisitr.com\/64170\/140-year-old-hot-dog\/\">big publicity stunt<\/a> that even Brooklyn&#8217;s own News 12 got suckered into. Did anyone think to ask how a chunk of ice would have stayed frozen for more than century when daily temperatures in  New York City regularly top 90 degrees between June and September?<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"500\" height=\"330\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/q9uhxvyv2W0&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;border=1\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/q9uhxvyv2W0&#038;hl=en_US&#038;fs=1&#038;border=1\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"500\" height=\"330\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;The recent discovery by an amateur archaeologist of the \u2018140 Year Old Feltman\u2019s Hot Dog\u2019 encased in ice along with a bun, [and] an original receipt from Feltman\u2019s, &#8230; was a publicity stunt in the grand tradition of Coney Island ballyhoo,&#8221;<\/em> said Tricia Vita, spokeswoman for The History Project. <em>\u201cI was surprised in the beginning at how many people believed it was true,\u201d<\/em> she said. <em>\u201cBut after reading all the buzz about it on Twitter and the Internet, I\u2019m not really that surprised because people want to believe these types of things are true.\u201c<\/em><\/p>\n<p>CNN has since removed the report from its website. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/feedads.g.doubleclick.net\/~a\/xVogJkGASw2Wf3hIA9qjRiwa0nU\/0\/da\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/feedads.g.doubleclick.net\/~a\/xVogJkGASw2Wf3hIA9qjRiwa0nU\/0\/di\" border=\"0\" ismap=\"true\"><\/img><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/feedads.g.doubleclick.net\/~a\/xVogJkGASw2Wf3hIA9qjRiwa0nU\/1\/da\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/feedads.g.doubleclick.net\/~a\/xVogJkGASw2Wf3hIA9qjRiwa0nU\/1\/di\" border=\"0\" ismap=\"true\"><\/img><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, this is embarrassing.
