Now, we discover that the <a class=\"autolink\" title=\"Click here to read more posts tagged #ipodtouch\" href=\"http:\/\/gizmodo.com\/tag\/ipodtouch\/\">iPod Touch<\/a> shares more demographics with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&#038;source=web&#038;ct=res&#038;cd=13&#038;ved=0CGsQFjAM&#038;url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FTwilight_(2008_film)&#038;ei=edqGS8LWFNLmlAfP4_kP&#038;usg=AFQjCNEm-17dBx0dUmcyrXz_eeX8e3PryA\">glittering vampires<\/a> than smartphones. iPod Touch: <em>Kid stuff.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The age distribution makes a lot of sense, especially with the direct available comparison of the iPhone: the iPod Touch is a good gift, a plausible purchase, and a good investment for a young person right now. An iPhone with a $70-a-month minimum contract is a tougher sell, either to parents, or to kids mostly supported by their parents.<\/p>\n<p>And these kids don&#8217;t just buy different gadgets than adults&mdash;they use them differently, too. For example, they looooove apps:<a rel=\"lytebox\" href=\"http:\/\/cache.gawkerassets.com\/assets\/images\/4\/2010\/02\/screencap_2010-02-25_at_3.16.48_pm.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cache.gawkerassets.com\/assets\/images\/4\/2010\/02\/500x_screencap_2010-02-25_at_3.16.48_pm.jpg\" class=\"left image500\" width=\"500\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nBut they&#8217;re stingy little bastards, these kids: <a rel=\"lytebox\" href=\"http:\/\/cache.gawkerassets.com\/assets\/images\/4\/2010\/02\/screencap_2010-02-25_at_3.17.09_pm.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cache.gawkerassets.com\/assets\/images\/4\/2010\/02\/500x_screencap_2010-02-25_at_3.17.09_pm.jpg\" class=\"left image500\" width=\"500\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nBuying an app can be tough without a credit card, so again, this isn&#8217;t shocking. But it does poke a little hole in the idea of the iPod Touch as a massive moneymaker for Apple. Hardware sales are tremendous and highly profitable, sure, but once the devices are in users&#8217; soft little baby hands, they don&#8217;t keep raking it in like the iPhone does.
