The catamaran, dubbed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.planetsolar.org\/index.en.php\">PlanetSolar<\/a>, is expected to produce up to 103.4KW of solar power to drive its engine which needs just 20KW to achieve a speed of about eight knots.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.instablogsimages.com\/images\/2010\/02\/26\/planet-solar_2_9feHd_69.jpg\" alt=\"planet solar_2\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The boat has been designed for a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecofriend.org\/entry\/eco-boats-planetsolar-to-circumnavigate-the-globe-in-four-months\/\">global circumnavigation<\/a> planned for 2011. The 60 ton catamaran has been built at the cost of about $24.4 million at the Knierim Yacht Club in Kiel in northern Germany.
