The two positions will consists of a &#8220;Chief Safety Executive,&#8221; who will work full time on recalls and safety concerns and a higher-ranking\u00a0chief quality officer who will sit on a Special Committee for Global Quality led by Toyoda.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Virtually all decisions relating to recalls and safety matters are decided in Japan,&#8221; said Jim Wiseman, spokesman for Toyota. &#8220;This is an effort to elevate key North American executives in major positions of responsibility and authority in that process.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-51864\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>During hearings this week, Toyota&#8217;s top officials agreed that the concentration on decision-making had resulted in a slow response to\u00a0potential dangerous defects.
