{"id":368136,"date":"2010-02-26T14:59:48","date_gmt":"2010-02-26T19:59:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/badastronomy\/?p=12362"},"modified":"2010-02-26T14:59:48","modified_gmt":"2010-02-26T19:59:48","slug":"two-posts-about-denialism-climate-change-and-otherwise-bad-astronomy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/368136","title":{"rendered":"Two posts about denialism, climate change and otherwise | Bad Astronomy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Because I love to write about climate change and watch the misinformation and noise fly in the comments, I will direct your attention to two very interesting articles about denialism:<\/p>\n<p>1) My friend and noted skeptic <a rel=\"nofollow\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.theness.com\/neurologicablog\/?p=1657\">Steve Novella<\/a> writes about the meaning of scientific consensus and denialism, whether that&#8217;s over global warming or vaccines.<\/p>\n<p>2) An article on lies.com <a rel=\"nofollow\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.lies.com\/wp\/2010\/02\/25\/mckibben-on-why-climate-change-denial-is-like-the-o-j-trial\/\">likens global warming denialism to the O. J. Simpson trial<\/a>, saying that when faced with overwhelming evidence, Simpson&#8217;s lawyers attacked the court <em>process<\/em> instead of the actual case. It&#8217;s a fascinating analogy and one that strikes me as being very apt.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/badastronomy\/files\/2010\/01\/lalalala_beavercanthearyou-300x233.jpg\" alt=\"lalalala_beavercanthearyou\" title=\"lalalala_beavercanthearyou\" width=\"300\" height=\"233\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-9909\"\/>I&#8217;ll add as a bonus a link to something I wrote a while back: <a rel=\"nofollow\"  href=\"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/badastronomy\/2009\/06\/09\/im-skeptical-of-denialism\/\">the difference between skepticism and denialism<\/a>.
