{"id":36816,"date":"2009-11-05T10:11:07","date_gmt":"2009-11-05T15:11:07","guid":{"rendered":"b15f2016-39db-4f64-abb9-72b8080eb8b9"},"modified":"2009-11-05T10:11:07","modified_gmt":"2009-11-05T15:11:07","slug":"democrats-weigh-impact-of-election-results-on-health-reform","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/36816","title":{"rendered":"Democrats Weigh Impact of Election Results On Health Reform"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While some Democrats seem\u00a0rattled by election results this week, others say\u00a0the GOP victories in two races for governor\u00a0won&#8217;t change their approach\u00a0to health overhaul legislation.<\/p>\n<p>\n      <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/news\/nation\/washington\/articles\/2009\/11\/04\/democrats_say_elections_wont_stop_health_care\/?rss_id=Boston.com+--+Latest+news\" >The Associated Press\/The Boston Globe<\/a> reports that Democrats\u00a0celebrated, too, winning two House seats Tuesday, one a California that had been held by a Democrat and the other a New York seat that is traditionally Republican. &#8220;Depending on how quickly the newly elected lawmakers are sworn in, it was possible the most immediate impact of the elections would be to increase support for the legislation. &#8216;From our standpoint we picked up votes last night,&#8217; said [House Speaker Nancy] Pelosi, D-Calif&#8221; (Espo, 11\/4). <\/p>\n<p>Democratic moderates also haven&#8217;t let the Republicans victories in Tuesday&#8217;s elections influence their votes on health care reform, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rollcall.com\/issues\/55_53\/news\/40289-1.html?CMP=OTC-RSS\" >Roll Call<\/a> reports: &#8220;That&#8217;s because many Democratic centrists \u2014 particularly those representing conservative states and districts \u2014 were already nervous about how their health care vote might be received at home.&#8221; More Democrats were apt to blame the candidates instead of the Democratic Party for the governor losses in Virginia and New Jersey (Drucker and Newmyer, 11\/5). <\/p>\n<p>But the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/news\/nationworld\/nation\/la-na-election5-2009nov05,0,883229.story?page=1\" >Los Angeles Times<\/a> reports that some are rattled by the outcome: &#8220;Now, as the entire House of Representatives and a third of the Senate prepare for next year&#8217;s midterm elections, some moderate Democrats are wondering whether they can afford to follow President Obama&#8217;s ambitious legislative agenda on such controversial issues as healthcare and climate change.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;&#8216;There are going to be a lot more tensions between the White House and Congress,&#8217; predicted Rep.
