{"id":370820,"date":"2010-02-27T11:42:50","date_gmt":"2010-02-27T16:42:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/intersection\/?p=7074"},"modified":"2010-02-27T11:42:50","modified_gmt":"2010-02-27T16:42:50","slug":"politics-religion-sex-and-intelligence-the-intersection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/370820","title":{"rendered":"Politics, Religion, Sex, and Intelligence? | The Intersection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Before another person emails me <a rel=\"nofollow\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2010\/HEALTH\/02\/26\/liberals.atheists.sex.intelligence\/index.html?hpt=C2\">this article<\/a>, yes I&#8217;ve seen it.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>(CNN)<\/strong> &#8212; Political, religious and sexual behaviors may be reflections of intelligence, a new study finds.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Anyone who follows the blog should already know I&#8217;m <em>highly<\/em> skeptical about such stories and their purported findings (<em>although I am confident they result in lots of traffic online at the url<\/em>). I have not seen the primary source, but want to respond to the emails I&#8217;m receiving.<\/p>\n<p>In short, the reason this troubles me very much is because&#8211;regardless of what the actual study says&#8211;the way it&#8217;s been written up as a &#8216;<em>news<\/em>&#8216; item is misleading (<em>especially for those who don&#8217;t read past the headline<\/em>). Of course many of the factors considered will show interesting correlations in a sample, but correlation does not equal causation. Each is extremely dependent on social mores, cultural norms, hormones, relationships, socieoeconomic status, and much, <em>much<\/em>, more.
