Orlando Sentinel columnist Mike Thomas provided a prime example of this yesterday when he reported that former Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio had issued a release &#8220;<a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.orlandosentinel.com\/news_columnist_mikethomas\/2010\/02\/marco-rubio-joins-the-terri-schiavo-crowd.html\">whacking Charlie Crist for not being tough on social issues like abortion<\/a>,&#8221; in which he invoked the infamous case of <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2005\/03\/18\/national\/18schiavo.html?_r=1\">Terri Schiavo<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Marco Rubio\u2019s campaign has put out a new release, whacking Charlie Crist for not being tough on social issues like abortion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The release includes this mention of the Terri Schiavo case, &#8220;Crist also received criticism on the Terri Schiavo debate about where he really stood on a Congressional bill that would have let Terri\u2019s parents take their lawsuit to save her life to federal courts.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Thomas interprets the release as evidence that Rubio &#8220;seems to favor government intervention in this case.&#8221; According to a Nexis search, Rubio hasn&#8217;t explicitly commented on the Schiavo incident, in which conservatives brought a personal tragedy to national attention in 2005 to <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/seattletimes.nwsource.com\/html\/nationworld\/2002213728_memo20.html\">energize their pro-life base<\/a>. The GOP tried to write legislation forcing doctors to reinsert Schiavo&#8217;s feeding tube and taking the \u201cextraordinary step\u201d of subpoenaing the critically brain-damaged woman to testify to Congress. Rubio did <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myfloridahouse.gov\/Sections\/Bills\/floorvote.aspx?VoteId=3425&#038;BillId=12713&#038;\">vote<\/a> for the law giving then-Gov. Jeb Bush the authority &#8220;to <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myfloridahouse.gov\/Sections\/Bills\/billsdetail.aspx?BillId=12713\">issue a one-time stay<\/a> to prevent the withholding of nutrition and hydration from&#8221; <a  rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2005\/03\/18\/national\/18schiavo.html\">Schiavo<\/a>.
