{"id":376748,"date":"2010-03-01T18:01:00","date_gmt":"2010-03-01T23:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/37signals.com\/svn\/posts\/2184-marchfirst"},"modified":"2010-03-01T18:01:00","modified_gmt":"2010-03-01T23:01:00","slug":"marchfirst","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/376748","title":{"rendered":"marchFIRST"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On March 1 it&#8217;s always a good reminder to look back at <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/MarchFirst\">marchFIRST<\/a> &mdash; an example of what big money and power thought was a good idea just 10 years ago.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The original USWeb was founded in 1995 by a group of former Novell executives (Joe Firmage, Toby Corey, and Sheldon Laube)<\/li>\n<li>USWeb went public with an <span class=\"caps\">IPO<\/span> in 1997<\/li>\n<li>USWeb agreed to buy the offline advertising agency, <span class=\"caps\">CKS<\/span> Group, in a stock transaction in September 1998<\/li>\n<li>Whitman-Hart acquired Four Points Digital <span class=\"caps\">LLC<\/span>, Fulcrum Solutions Ltd., and <span class=\"caps\">BALR<\/span> Corp in 1999.<\/li>\n<li>USWeb\/CKS and Whittman-Hart merged in March 2000 to form marchFIRST, Inc.<\/li>\n<li>John Guynn, a copywriter at Mckinney &#38; Silver, thought of the name marchFIRST.<\/li>\n<li>Bernard resigned in March, and marchFIRST went bankrupt in April 2001<\/li>\n<li>Two companies (Avenue A and Divine) acquired several offices in April 2001<\/li>\n<li>Whittman-Hart re-emerged as a separate company under Bernard<\/li>\n<li>USWeb is currently an Internet services firm copying the name of the original USWeb<\/li>\n<li>Divine purchased several companies that struggled after the dot com bust, including some remnants of marchFIRST<\/li>\n<li>Divine went bankrupt in Feb 2003 (in April 2003, Divine&#8217;s assets were sold at auction)<\/li>\n<li>Gus Mueller received his final paycheck from marchFIRST, 6 years late in the summer of 2007.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Are we smarter today?<\/p>\n<div class=\"feedflare\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/~ff\/37signals\/beMH?a=SS3f5tHE4ho:amIIRZBW6AQ:yIl2AUoC8zA\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/~ff\/37signals\/beMH?d=yIl2AUoC8zA\" border=\"0\"><\/img><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/~ff\/37signals\/beMH?a=SS3f5tHE4ho:amIIRZBW6AQ:7Q72WNTAKBA\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/~ff\/37signals\/beMH?d=7Q72WNTAKBA\" border=\"0\"><\/img><\/a>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On March 1 it&#8217;s always a good reminder to look back at marchFIRST &mdash; an example of what big money and power thought was a good idea just 10 years ago.
