The Learning Channel has left Miss America homeless.<\/p>\n
<\/span><\/p>\n TLC has opted not to renew its television rights to the decades-old beauty pageant, effectively dumping the show in a statement<\/a> to The Associated Press on Monday.<\/p>\n “We are happy that TLC was part of the modernization and revitalization of the Miss America pageant. This year we delivered record ratings, besting any of it’s prior performances on cable. However, our three year deal has concluded and we have chosen not to renew. We wish the Miss America Organization well.”<\/em><\/p>\n According to Reuters: Miss America aired on NBC from 1966-96, then switched to ABC. When ABC declined to renew the pageant in 2006, organizers shopped the show to cable networks. CMT picked it up for two years, then dropped it. TLC signed a three-year agreement with pageant organizers in 2008. TLC declined to say why it is cutting ties with the pageant — which has waned in popularity in recent years, but attracted a record 4.5 million viewers in January.<\/p>\n The Learning Channel has left Miss America homeless.
