{"id":377316,"date":"2010-03-01T12:54:59","date_gmt":"2010-03-01T17:54:59","guid":{"rendered":"14681 at http:\/\/www.precentral.net"},"modified":"2010-03-01T12:54:59","modified_gmt":"2010-03-01T17:54:59","slug":"latest-preader-update-adds-epub-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/377316","title":{"rendered":"Latest pReader Update Adds ePub Support"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rtecenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" class=\"lightbox2\" align=\"right\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.precentral.net\/sites\/precentral.net\/files\/articleimages\/Jonathan%20I%20Ezor\/2010\/02\/thumb_350_preader_2010-24-02_114224.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.precentral.net\/app-gallery\/app-catalog\/preader\">pReader<\/a>, a homebrew graduate that already supported Secure eReader and Secure Mobipocket formats for e-books (something that has substantially softened the impact of eReader&rsquo;s own <a href=\"http:\/\/www.precentral.net\/%E2%80%9Cno-plans%E2%80%9D-ereader-webos-growing-list-alternatives\">lack of webOS plans<\/a>), reached another milestone this week when its author <a href=\"http:\/\/forums.precentral.net\/members\/jappus.html\">Jappus<\/a> announced &ldquo;experimental ePub support&rdquo; with version 0.8 (for now available only via the app&rsquo;s <a href=\"http:\/\/forums.precentral.net\/showthread.php?p=2012961\">PreCentral Forum homepage<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>As e-book and Apple fans alike know, ePub is an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.openebook.org\/\">open standard for e-books<\/a> that Apple has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tuaw.com\/2010\/01\/31\/all-about-epub-the-ebook-standard-for-apples-ibookstore\/\">announced<\/a> will be the chosen format for its iBooks app on the iPad. Other e-book readers and stores already support ePub, as does<a href=\"http:\/\/www.precentral.net\/app-gallery\/app-catalog\/popelli-reader\"> Popelli Reader<\/a> for webOS. pReader, though, is the first webOS appp to combine ePub support with compatibility for other secure formats, allowing users to read DRM-protected e-books from sites like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fictionwise.com\/help\/eBook-formats-FAQ.htm\">Fictionwise<\/a>.
