General Motors long ago set the launch date for the 2011 Chevrolet Volt for November 2010; however, when Chairman Ed Whitacre became CEO of the company, he planned to push the Volt extended-range electric to customer’s garages prior to November.<\/p>\n

According to the Free Press<\/em>, Whitacre’s ambitions are running into hurdles. Executives familiar with the plans said that they’ve run into some challenges that are complicating the push.<\/p>\n

The idea has “a number of problems, and the car isn’t one of them,” one executive said.<\/p>\n

Insiders are concerned that if the Volt is sold before the official launch date, it could require early tweaks and changes that are routine to prepare a vehicle for official rollout. If those tweaks and changes are misunderstood, it could create PR problems for GM, which is counting on the Volt to boost its image.<\/p>\n
