{"id":379545,"date":"2010-03-02T01:53:41","date_gmt":"2010-03-02T06:53:41","guid":{"rendered":"tag:consumerist.com,2010:\/\/1.10002736"},"modified":"2010-03-02T01:42:54","modified_gmt":"2010-03-02T06:42:54","slug":"gm-to-recall-chevy-cobalts-various-pontiacs-due-to-steering-problems","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/379545","title":{"rendered":"GM To Recall Chevy Cobalts, Various Pontiacs Due To Steering Problems"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/consumerist.com\/assets_c\/2010\/03\/3-2-2010%201-38-23%20AM-thumb-250x128-37632.jpg\">         <\/p>\n<p>GM has announced that it is recalling 1.2 million vehicles to address a power steering problem that has been linked to 14 crashes and one injury.<\/p>\n<p>A loss of power-steering assist sometimes occurs at speeds of less than 15 mph in the following cars: <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt <\/li>\n<li>2007-2010 Pontiac G5 in the United States; <\/li>\n<li>2005-2006 Pontiac Pursuit sold in Canada,<\/li>\n<li>2005-2006 Pontiac G4 sold in Mexico.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The recall follows an investigation by NHTSA after 1,132 complaints of power steering failures that could make the cars hard to control.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;After our in-depth investigation, we found that this is a condition that takes time to develop. It tends to occur in older models out of warranty,&#8221; said Jamie Hresko, GM vice president of quality, in a statement. &#8220;Recalling these vehicles is the right thing to do for our customers&#8217; peace of mind.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The cars are apparently safe to drive even if the outage occurs, but it will require more effort to steer the vehicle.
