{"id":380768,"date":"2010-03-02T15:21:48","date_gmt":"2010-03-02T20:21:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.szone.us\/f95\/spanish-judge-probes-chavez-terror-connection-40234\/"},"modified":"2010-03-02T15:21:48","modified_gmt":"2010-03-02T20:21:48","slug":"spanish-judge-probes-chavez-terror-connection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/380768","title":{"rendered":"Spanish Judge Probes Chavez Terror Connection"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>On 03.02.10 08:33 AM posted by Ray Walser<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.heritage.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/chavez_081103.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On March 1,* Spanish prosecuting judge Eloy Velasco <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10001424052748704754604575095291011683812.html?mod=WSJ_WSJ_US_World\" >issued indictments<\/a> against 12 terrorist members of the ETA, the chief Basque separatist\/terrorist organization, and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). *Both ETA and FARC are considered international terrorist organization in Europe and by the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>The Spanish judge charged the 12 with conspiring to murder Colombia\u0092s President Alvaro Uribe, former president Andr\u00e9s Pastrana, and other senior Colombian officials on Spanish soil.* International arrest warrants were issued for all 12.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Velasco wrote in the indictment: \u0093There is evidence in this case which shows the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/world\/2010\/mar\/01\/hugo-chavez-venezuela-spain-eta\" >Venezuelan government&#8217;s cooperation<\/a> in the illegal association between FARC and ETA.\u0094<\/p>\n<p>The indictment singles out long-time ETA member Arturo Cubillas Font\u00e1n as the primary liaison between the ETA and FARC. Cubillas, a naturalized Venezuelan citizen, is believed to be employed by Hugo Chavez\u0092s government as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elpais.com\/articulo\/espana\/etarra\/Cubillas\/trabaja\/Chavez\/2005\/elpepunac\/20100302elpepinac_5\/Tes\" >chief of security for the National Land Institute<\/a>. According to Judge Velasco, Cubillas acted as a regular go-between for the ETA with senior FARC officials and arranged <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abc.es\/20100302\/nacional-terrorismo\/juez-velasco-denuncia-gobierno-20100302.html\" >training of ETA and FARC terrorists on Venezuelan soil<\/a> between 2003 and 2008.* Cubillas\u0092 wife \u0096 journalist Goizeder Odriozola \u0096 was appointed in 2006 to be <a href=\"http:\/\/baracuteycubano.blogspot.com\/2006\/09\/chavez-nombra-goizeder-odriozola.html\" >director of Chavez\u0092s presidential office<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Evidence in the ETA-FARC case was in part developed from documents found in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.webcitation.org\/5iUGnyJsP\" >laptop files<\/a> recovered in March 2008 when the Colombian military took out the FARC\u0092s chief of staff Raul Reyes and others in a guerrilla base camp just inside Ecuador.<\/p>\n<p>The indictment prompted Spanish Premier Jose Luis Rodriguez <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/europe\/8544476.stm\" >Zapatero to demand explanations<\/a> from the Venezuelan government.
