{"id":382174,"date":"2010-03-02T22:18:47","date_gmt":"2010-03-03T03:18:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.szone.us\/f93\/csun-s-china-institute-celebrate-chinese-new-year-banquet-40253\/"},"modified":"2010-03-02T22:18:47","modified_gmt":"2010-03-03T03:18:47","slug":"csun%c2%92s-china-institute-to-celebrate-chinese-new-year-with-banquet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/382174","title":{"rendered":"CSUN\u0092S China Institute to Celebrate Chinese New Year with Banquet"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>03.02.10 03:15 PM<\/p>\n<p>The China Institute and the Chinese Student Association (CSA) at Cal State Northridge invite students, staff, faculty, family, friends and the community to a special Chinese New Year\u0092s banquet later this month to celebrate the Year of the Tiger.<\/p>\n<p> The event, scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 20, from 6 to 9 p.m., will be held at the Grand Salon in the University Student Union on the east side of campus located on 18111 Nordhoff St. in Northridge.<\/p>\n<p> The celebration will include special performances from Master Qian of the Shanghai Opera Academy, CSUN\u0092s Women\u0092s Chorale, CSA Performers and artists from the community as well as holiday food from L.A Buffet.<\/p>\n<p> The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.csunchinainstitute.org\/\" >China Institute<\/a> has hosted hundreds of visiting scholars from more than 40 sister universities in China. Currently, more than 300 Chinese students and scholars are studying at CSUN in different programs, including an innovative 2+2 program where students study in a Chinese university for the first two years, then spend their junior and senior year at CSUN. Upon completion of their studies, the students receive two bachelor&#8217;s degrees, one from the Chinese university and one from CSUN.<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;The China Institute is committed to promoting the development of friendship, understanding, collaboration and exchange between CSUN and China,\u0094 said Justine Su, professor and director of CSUN\u0092s China Institute. \u0093We will work towards this goal in the new year with the \u0091tiger\u0092 spirit and courage.\u0094<\/p>\n<p> Over the years, the institute has hosted dozens of cultural events on campus, including the annual celebration of the Chinese New Year on campus for its members, as well as CSUN faculty, students, administrators and friends from the local community.<\/p>\n<p> As part of the annual celebration, faculty at CSUN with an interest in China are invited to apply for  initial seed money from the China Institute to start a project in their discipline that advances the field of China Studies or promotes long-term exchange and collaboration for faculty and students. Applicants should explain how this grant may stimulate larger and longer range projects.
