The clinic will be open to anyone in central and southern Illinois or southwestern Indiana who has worked in coal-mining professions or has other occupational exposure to dust, fumes and chemicals.<\/p>\n
The clinic will continue on the first Friday of each month.<\/p>\n
The free evaluations can help people qualify for black lung benefits from the federal government, according to Shelly Rigsby, program coordinator for the Southern Illinois and Southwestern Indiana Respiratory Disease Program.<\/p>\n
People signing up for appointments are asked to bring in a chest X-ray, which costs $150 and is the federally funded examination program\u2019s only out-of-pocket expense, Rigsby said.<\/p>\n
