Hollywood kills another classic: A big screen version of the 1960\u2019s TV classic Gilligan\u2019s Island<\/em> is reportedly in the works.<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

The show — which spawned the 1978 TV movie Rescue From <\/em>Gilligan’s Island<\/em> — centered on the exploits of seven shipwrecked castaways deserted on an uncharted and uninhabited island in the Pacific. <\/p>\n

The sitcom, which ran on CBS from 1964 to 1967, is being developed for the big screen by Warner Bros. and Atlas Entertainment. Producers say the proposed movie, still in preproduction, will take a contemporary look at the classic series.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe characters are so good,\u201d<\/em> producer Charles Roven told Variety<\/a><\/em> on Wednesday. \u201cWe think it\u2019s going to be a great story to transport these cultural icons to the modern day.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Gilligan’s Island<\/em> ended in April 1967 with the castaways still stranded after the show wasn’t renewed for a fourth season.<\/p>\n
