By creating this awards program \u2013 the first of its kind dedicated only to public parks &#8211; Designing the Parks will continue to foster quality discourse on the role and significance of public parks in community life and the importance of innovative, responsive, high quality planning and design. In turn, we hope to encourage a generation of highly informed, sophisticated and discerning park stewards, planners, designers, and park users in every country.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The goal of the program is to\u00a0feature parks that\u00a0best illustrate the following park design principles:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reverence for place<\/li>\n<li>Engagement of all people<\/li>\n<li>Expansion beyond traditional boundaries<\/li>\n<li>Advancement of sustainability<\/li>\n<li>Informed decision making<\/li>\n<li>An integrated research, planning, design, and review process<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The awards program\u00a0hopes to reach both\u00a0park planning and design communities.\u00a0 &#8220;This call for submissions is extended both internationally and to parks that are administered by all levels of government. Entries must demonstrate response to one or more of these principles. Additionally, entries in all categories must illustrate innovative and sensitive strategies applied toward resource preservation, energy conservation, sustainability, contextual design and mitigation of climate change.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>All submissions will be judged on the following criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Leadership and innovation demonstrated in the application of the principles.<\/li>\n<li>Creativity and sensitivity demonstrated in the application of the principles.<\/li>\n<li>Number of principles illustrated.<\/li>\n<li>Complexity of park or open space problem solved.<\/li>\n<li>Compliance with entry requirements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Entries will be accepted through April 30, 2010.\u00a0Built and open projects are eligible, and landscape architects, architects, planners, designers, park managers are encouraged to submit. The registration fee is\u00a0$200 per entry. Entries will then\u00a0be juried in early June, and winners will be announced by the beginning of July.
