{"id":384113,"date":"2010-03-03T11:52:07","date_gmt":"2010-03-03T16:52:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/freakbits.com\/?p=1683"},"modified":"2010-03-03T11:52:07","modified_gmt":"2010-03-03T16:52:07","slug":"law-would-allow-blocking-of-file-sharing-sites","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/384113","title":{"rendered":"Law Would Allow Blocking of File-Sharing Sites"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Open Rights Group are asking citizens to complain about a proposed amendment to law which would allow courts to block sites which allegedly infringe copyright.<span id=\"more-1683\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/freakbits.com\/media\/digitalbritain.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1685\" title=\"digitalbritain\" src=\"http:\/\/freakbits.com\/media\/digitalbritain.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"147\" \/><\/a>A pair of Lords in the UK have proposed an amendment to the Digital Economy Bill which would force Internet service providers to deny their subscribers&#8217; access to sites accused of infringing copyright.<\/p>\n<p>The amendment would give courts the power to &#8220;prevent access to specified online locations for the prevention of online copyright infringement&#8221; in cases where a &#8220;substantial proportion of the content accessible at or via each specified online location infringes copyright&#8221; and where site operators had failed to take &#8220;reasonable steps&#8221; to stop infringements.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This would open the door to a massive imbalance of power in favour of large copyright holding companies.
