Like the Chevy Volt, it\u2019s battery powered and uses a gasoline motor to recharge the batteries; unlike the Volt, or any other electric car to date, the A1 e-tron concept uses a Wankel motor to produce the charge.  More after the jump.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"more-39244\"><\/span>Why a Wankel rotary motor?  Because they\u2019re compact, light weight and produce outstanding power for their size.  The rotary used in the A1 e-tron weighs just 154 pounds and is small enough to fit below the A1\u2019s cargo floor.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_39246\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 510px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ridelust.com\/audi-a1-e-tron-concept-makes-geneva-debut\/g100008\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-39246\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ridelust.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/etron-motor-500x327.jpg\" alt=\"Audi A1 etron Concept\" title=\"G100008\" width=\"500\" height=\"327\" class=\"size-large wp-image-39246\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nuclear reactor?  No, a rotary motor.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Wankel \/  battery combination will produce reasonable performance, with 0 to 60 times in the 10 second range.  Battery only range is expected to be around 30 miles, with the rotary motor providing an additional 100 miles of range.
