{"id":385279,"date":"2010-03-03T16:48:26","date_gmt":"2010-03-03T21:48:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/washingtonindependent.com\/?p=78255"},"modified":"2010-03-03T16:48:26","modified_gmt":"2010-03-03T21:48:26","slug":"the-right-battles-the-southern-poverty-law-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/385279","title":{"rendered":"The Right Battles the Southern Poverty Law Center"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WorldNetDaily&#8217;s Bob Unruh <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wnd.com\/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&amp;pageId=126761\">has a lot of fun<\/a> with the Southern Poverty Law Center&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonindependent.com\/78029\/the-big-militia-comeback\">report<\/a> on new right-wing extremist groups, calling up some of the leaders named and shamed and finding &#8212; surprise &#8212; a lot of mockery and skepticism.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Stewart Rhodes, founder of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oathkeepers.org\/\">Oath Keepers,<\/a> told WND such accusers try to link activists with terrorists such as Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh, because their arguments have no substance&#8230; &#8220;We want our government to return to the constitutional republic which the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution defined and instituted,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span id=\"more-78255\"><\/span>And a less controversial group jumps in:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Larry Pratt of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.goa.org\/\">Gun Owners of America<\/a> &#8230; told WND the SPLC report was little more than &#8220;fundraising, trying to scare a bunch of little old ladies to cough up money.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a typical argument that the left resorts to,&#8221; he said, &#8220;since they really have trouble with the fact that, until Obama was elected, they had been pretty successful at concealing that liberalism really is socialism.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Like I said in a short post about the release of the report, this stuff doesn&#8217;t really bother the right &#8212; calling out their fringe as a possible threat to national security is laughed off as hyperbole.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WorldNetDaily&#8217;s Bob Unruh has a lot of fun with the Southern Poverty Law Center&#8217;s report on new right-wing extremist groups, calling up some of the leaders named and shamed and finding &#8212; surprise &#8212; a lot of mockery and skepticism.
