{"id":388059,"date":"2010-03-04T10:00:49","date_gmt":"2010-03-04T15:00:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.harvard.edu\/gazette\/?p=39162"},"modified":"2010-03-04T10:00:49","modified_gmt":"2010-03-04T15:00:49","slug":"celebrating-a-green-campus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/388059","title":{"rendered":"Celebrating a green campus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The first annual <a href=\"http:\/\/green.harvard.edu\/greencarpet\">Green Carpet awards<\/a> ceremony will premier this spring honoring Harvard faculty, students, and staff who have made significant contributions to greenhouse gas reduction and sustainability at Harvard.<\/p>\n<p>Approximately 35 awards will be given, ranging from individual to team categories. The event and selection process is being led by the <a href=\"http:\/\/green.harvard.edu\/\">Office for Sustainability<\/a> (OFS).<\/p>\n<p>Students also will be able to participate in a Green Video competition that challenges undergraduates and graduate students to develop humorous, creative, short video segments that influence viewers to conserve energy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe University community has made important progress in reducing our greenhouse gas emissions as a result of the work of many individuals throughout Harvard\u2019s Schools,\u201d said Executive Vice President <a href=\"http:\/\/evp.harvard.edu\/\">Katie Lapp<\/a>. \u201cWe wanted to recognize these efforts and help to inspire our students, staff, and faculty to continue developing creative ways to advance Harvard\u2019s environmental goals.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Five of the awards will be given to teams based on measurable energy reductions, creativity, and demonstrated teamwork. The specific team awards are Greenhouse Gas Reduction Project, Green Team Project Award, Water or Waste Reduction Project, Capital Project, and Student Project.<\/p>\n<p>Individual Achievement Awards will be given to representatives from each School and major unit.<\/p>\n<p>Green Video Awards will be presented to the contest\u2019s student winner and runner-up who use humor and creativity to help embed sustainability into Harvard life. Videos will be screened at the awards event, which will take place in late April.<\/p>\n<p>Nominations for all of the awards may be made through the OFS website or by email at sustainability@harvard.edu<strong>.<\/strong> The deadline for entries is April 15.
