{"id":388307,"date":"2010-03-04T10:48:24","date_gmt":"2010-03-04T15:48:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/globalvoicesonline.org\/?p=126175"},"modified":"2010-03-04T10:48:24","modified_gmt":"2010-03-04T15:48:24","slug":"peru-new-floods-in-cusco-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/388307","title":{"rendered":"Peru: New Floods in Cusco Region"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When it was believed that the disaster situation caused by <a href=\"http:\/\/globalvoicesonline.org\/2010\/02\/09\/peru-cusco-bloggers-cover-the-rain-disaster\/\">rains and flooding in Cusco, Peru<\/a> and surrounding areas had gotten better, on March 1st <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cpnradio.pe\/html\/2010\/03\/01\/2\/5688.htm\">strong rains [es]<\/a> once again caused the overflow another river. The overflow of the Quesermayo River in the Taray District, Calca Province in the Cusco region <a href=\"http:\/\/www.larepublica.pe\/regionales\/01\/03\/2010\/siete-muertos-deja-desborde-de-rio-quesermayo\">produced 7 deaths, various injured and the flooding of 80% of the housing in the area [es]<\/a>. It also affected the highway linking Cusco and Pisac. What made this flooding different than past occasions, is that it appeared that help arrived faster and the same day of the disaster, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.andina.com.pe\/Espanol\/Noticia.aspx?id=yMF60Gre19w=\">Minister of Energy and Mines arrived with 3 tons of food assistance [es]<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_126176\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" style=\"width: 410px\"><a href=\"http:\/\/twitpic.com\/162l7d\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/globalvoicesonline.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/peru.jpg\" alt=\"Photo by Marco Moscoso and used with permission.\" title=\"peru\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" class=\"size-full wp-image-126176\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by Marco Moscoso and used with permission.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>However, it was also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.larepublica.pe\/regionales\/02\/03\/2010\/rio-quesermayo-dejo-9-muertos-y-veinte-desaparecidos-en-cusco\">reported that other villages were affected [es]<\/a>, such as Cuya and Yacarpay, and a state of emergency was declared in other districts of Cusco, such as San Sebasti\u00e1n, San Jer\u00f3nimo, Anta, Zurite, Limatambo and Lamay. As had been the case during the previous disaster, it was through Twitter that much of the news and photos of what was happening.<\/p>\n<p>Marco A. He also recorded video and when he returned to Cusco <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elcaminerito.com\/2010\/03\/01\/taray-sufre-desborde\/\">uploaded it to his blog<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Hoy se realizaron trabajos de limpieza y encausamiento con el apoyo del Ej\u00e9rcito Peruano, as\u00ed como se inici\u00f3 con la labor de empadronar a los damnificados al tiempo de brindarles alimento. De regreso al Cusco, la pista Pisac \u2013 San Salvador se vio interrumpida al derrumbarse el cerro conocido como Morro Blanco por lo que para continuar hay que cruzar por chacras y lodo.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"translation\">Today clean-up work was carried out with the support of the Pervuian Army, and began with the task of registering the victims and at the same time providing food. Nos encontramos negociando con el alcalde de Pisaq para que se reubiquen a las familias damnificadas en un terreno de esa jurisdicci\u00f3n. El gobierno central deber\u00eda autorizar de manera efectiva la compra de maquinar\u00eda pesada a las municipalidades.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"translation\">We lacked a culture of prevention, and this suddenly happened to us. We are negotiating with the Mayor of Pisac to relocated affected families to some land in that jurisdiction.
