{"id":39056,"date":"2009-11-10T01:28:00","date_gmt":"2009-11-10T06:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/techdirt.com\/articles\/20091109\/1250546857.shtml"},"modified":"2009-11-10T01:28:00","modified_gmt":"2009-11-10T06:28:00","slug":"uk-to-require-service-providers-monitor-and-store-info-on-users","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/39056","title":{"rendered":"UK To Require Service Providers Monitor And Store Info On Users"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Despite lots of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techdirt.com\/articles\/20090427\/0739154667.shtml\">criticism<\/a> over the plan, UK politicians are moving forward with demands that online service providers <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/uk_news\/politics\/8350660.stm\" >store and monitor certain types of internet communications<\/a>.  While the government will be compensating service providers for some of this (your tax dollars at work), it&#8217;s still a rather large burden on these service providers, and raises all sorts of privacy questions.  Oh, and on top of all of that, we&#8217;ve already seen that law enforcement in the UK is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.techdirt.com\/articles\/20090517\/1236134908.shtml\">struggling<\/a> to cope with the fact that they&#8217;re already inundated with too much data.  They don&#8217;t want more data, they need better data.
