Tied with &#8220;The Hurt Locker&#8221; for most nominations, including Best Picture, &#8220;Avatar&#8221; is the most popular green-themed film, but don&#8217;t let the Nav&#8217;i distract you from other eco-ly legit films.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>For starters, Tom Philpott&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/feeds.grist.org\/article\/2010-01-21-why-you-should-go-see-fantastic-mr.-fox\">cinematic sweetheart<\/a>, &#8220;Fantastic Mr. Fox&#8221; garnered two nominations&#8212;Animated Feature Film and Music (Original Score)&#8212;although Philpott still claims it was <a href=\"http:\/\/feeds.grist.org\/article\/2010-02-02-oscar-smiles-upon-food-inc-stiffs-mr.-fox\">snubbed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Two films bypassed allegory and dug into unsustainable&#8212;and shocking&#8212;food practices to gain their nominations for Documentary (Feature). &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/feeds.grist.org\/article\/2009-06-16-quiz-food-inc\">Food, Inc.<\/a>&#8221; takes on the industrial food system in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>And &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/feeds.grist.org\/article\/2009-08-18-the-cove-pulls-no-punches-in-documenting-japanese-dolphin-hunt\">The Cove<\/a>&#8221; focuses on a brutal for-profit dolphin-killing operation in Japan.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Nominations alone are good publicity for these green messages, but a couple golden statues wouldn&#8217;t hurt.
