Lear Corp. will be spending more than $2.2 million at its northwest Indiana seat manufacturing facility where they will be producing seats for the new Ford Explorer SUV. Production positions and some technical and administrative positions will be among the 285 jobs created at the plant this year by way of this deal.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is good for middle America, especially since so many jobs were lost,\u201d Lear spokesman Mel Stephens said today. \u201cThis isn\u2019t just five jobs; it\u2019s pretty big and significant.\u201d<\/p>\n
The new Explorer is slated for production during the fourth quarter of this year at FoMoCo\u2019s Chicago plant, which has been supplied by Lear since the mid-90\u2019s. At least 100 laid-off workers will have the opportunity to secure one of the new jobs at the plant before Lear starts taking applications.
