Thompson, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.propublica.org\/nola\/story\/fbi-confirms-investigations-into-post-katrina-violence-widening-305\/\">ProPublica<\/a><\/i>\n<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;ve been following our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.propublica.org\/nola\/\">Law &amp; Disorder series<\/a>, there are a couple of fresh developments.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nOur partners at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nola.com\/\"><em>Times-Picayune<\/em><\/a> have some new information about the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nola.com\/crime\/index.ssf\/2010\/03\/fbi_opens_two_new_civil_rights.html\">expanding federal probe<\/a><br \/>\nof the New Orleans Police Department, confirming that the FBI is<br \/>\ninvestigating two more shootings described in stories we published in<br \/>\nDecember.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>\nAlso, the city&#8217;s inspector general <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nolaoig.org\/uploads\/File\/Public%20Letters\/Letter%20to%20Mayor%20Nagin_Chief%20Riley%20Complaint.pdf\">publicly accused<\/a><br \/>\n(PDF) Police Superintendent Warren Riley of illegally obstructing<br \/>\nattempts to scrutinize police misconduct and disciplinary files. <\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;As you know, the relationship between the New Orleans Police<br \/>\nDepartment (NOPD) and the citizens of New Orleans has been poor,&#8221; wrote<br \/>\nInspector General E.R. Quatrevaux in a letter sent this week to<br \/>\noutgoing Mayor C. Ray Nagin and posted on his office&#8217;s Web site. <\/p>\n<p>\nQuatrevaux is in the process of establishing an independent monitoring<br \/>\nbody to oversee the NOPD. In the letter, he faults Riley for barring<br \/>\nhis staffers from reviewing records on police misconduct, discipline<br \/>\nand shooting incidents.
