{"id":404537,"date":"2010-03-08T17:18:00","date_gmt":"2010-03-08T22:18:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/green.yahoo.com\/blog\/ecogeek\/1319\/report-says-leds-in-short-supply.html"},"modified":"2010-03-08T17:18:00","modified_gmt":"2010-03-08T22:18:00","slug":"report-says-leds-in-short-supply","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/404537","title":{"rendered":"Report says LEDs in short supply"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"led-supply\" height=\"183\" src=\"http:\/\/l.yimg.com\/a\/feeds\/us\/grn\/green_ecogeek\/led-supply.jpg\" width=\"468\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A new report from technology research corporation iSuppli warns that we&#8217;re facing a global <a href=\"http:\/\/ecogeek.org\/efficiency\/2520\">LED<\/a> shortage in 2010.\u00a0 Hooray!<\/p>\n<p>Why am I cheering?\u00a0 Because the reason for this shortage is a huge surge in demand for the energy-efficient lighting in the electronics industry.\u00a0 Yes, it&#8217;s bad that the supply is low, but it&#8217;s great news that the use of more efficient lighting is becoming more mainstream.<\/p>\n<p>The report says that demand for LEDs is expected to rise by double-digit percentages for at least the next three years.\u00a0 In 2009, 63 billion units were consumed out of the 75 billion unit capacity worldwide.\u00a0 The worst-case scenario is a rise in prices for mid-range and high-end computers and HDTVs because of their larger displays.<\/p>\n<p>The solution is simple enough though:\u00a0 increase production.\u00a0 The two largest suppliers have gotten the hint &#8212; Aixtron and Veeco Instruments are doubling their production by the end of this year.<\/p>\n<p>via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pcmag.com\/article2\/0,2817,2360884,00.asp?kc=PCRSS03069TX1K0001121&#038;utm_source=feedburner&#038;utm_medium=feed&#038;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+ziffdavis%2Fpcmag%2Fbreakingnews+%28PCMag.com+Breaking+News%29\">PC Mag<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"1\" src=\"http:\/\/l.yimg.com\/a\/feeds\/us\/grn\/green_ecogeek\/wsak_ixysfy\" width=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new report from technology research corporation iSuppli warns that we&#8217;re facing a global LED shortage in 2010.\u00a0 Hooray!
