\"ff-logo\"<\/a> Would you like to be able to highlight words on a page and choose the search engine or a site to look them up? This can be done in most web browsers, but it may not be a built-in feature.<\/p>\n

A while back, I told you \u201cHow to Add a Right Click Search Menu to Internet Explorer<\/a>\u201d.\u00a0 Now I\u2019ll tell you how to add this to Firefox. Here\u2019s what it looks like:<\/p>\n

As you can see above, the word \u201cRSS<\/em>\u201d is highlighted on the page. A right click on the highlighted word, brings up the \u201ccontext menu\u201d (or right click menu).<\/p>\n

To add the \u201cSearch for<\/em>\u201d menu item, we\u2019ll need to install an addon to Firefox. There are a few addons which add this type of function, but I like the SmartSearch addon<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Do you see all of the search engines listed in that menu? Those won\u2019t be there when you use this addon the first time. You have to add them yourself. It\u2019s easy to do, and the beauty of this is that you can add only the sites you like to search. Nobody will be giving you a pre-made list that they think you\u2019ll like.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s how to add a site to the \u201cSearch for<\/em>\u201d menu after SmartSearch is installed. I\u2019m going to use Download.com as an example.<\/p>\n

Go to download.com<\/p>\n

When you see the search box, right click on it and choose \u201cAdd a Keyword for this Search<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n

Next, you\u2019ll need to fill out the name of the search and add your own short \u201ckeyword\u201d for it (as shown). You can see that I\u2019ve chosen the two letters \u201cDL\u201d as the keyword.<\/p>\n

Notice that the Folder says \u201cBookmarks Menu<\/em>\u201d. You are actually better off creating a new folder for all of your searches. I chose to call my folder \u201cquicksearch\u201d.<\/p>\n

After saving, you\u2019ll have a new search in your right click \u201cSearch for<\/em>\u201d menu.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s an additional benefit. Since you have a \u201ckeyword<\/em>\u201d on the bookmark, you can search from your address bar using that keyword. If you want to search for \u201cbrowsers\u201d at download.com, just type \u201cdl browsers\u201d\u00a0 into the address bar and the results from download.com will quickly fill your page.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s where to install \u201cSmartSearch\u201d for Firefox<\/a>.<\/p>\n
