{"id":408196,"date":"2010-03-08T15:37:34","date_gmt":"2010-03-08T20:37:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.harvard.edu\/gazette\/?p=40043"},"modified":"2010-03-08T15:37:34","modified_gmt":"2010-03-08T20:37:34","slug":"crimson-sweep-individual-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/408196","title":{"rendered":"Crimson sweep individual championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cambridge may soon be called the college squash capital of the United States.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gocrimson.com\/sports\/wsquash\/2009-10\/bios\/gemmell_laura\">Laura Gemmell<\/a> \u201913 of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gocrimson.com\/sports\/wsquash\/index\">Harvard women\u2019s squash team<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gocrimson.com\/sports\/msquash\/2009-10\/bios\/west_colin\">Colin West<\/a> \u201910 of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gocrimson.com\/sports\/msquash\/index\">Harvard men\u2019s squash team<\/a> took home College Squash Association (CSA) individual national championships this past weekend (March 5-7), continuing Harvard\u2019s dominance in the squash world this season.<\/p>\n<p>The titles come just two weeks after Gemmell and the Harvard women\u2019s squash team won the 2010 CSA national team championship (Feb. 21) over Penn and West helped lead the Crimson to a fifth-place finish.<\/p>\n<p>Gemmell, who led Harvard to their 12th national title, finishes the season a perfect 16-0 as a freshman, after overcoming a 2-1 deficit against Trinity College\u2019s Pamela Hathway on Sunday (March 7) to take home the crown 3-2 (11-7, 5-11, 13-15, 11-8, 11-9). Gemmell becomes the 11th Crimson player to win the Ramsay Cup and the first since Kyla Grigg \u201907 in 2007.<\/p>\n<p>West defeated Princeton\u2019s Todd Harrity (11-9, 13-11, 11-1) in Sunday\u2019s title match, claiming the men\u2019s crown and completing the season with a 16-1 record. He is the 33rd Harvard player to win the Pool Cup, and completes his career at Harvard with a 50-9 record. West was also awarded this year\u2019s Skillman Award, given annually to a senior men\u2019s player \u201cwho has demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship throughout his college squash career.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cambridge may soon be called the college squash capital of the United States.
