{"id":41392,"date":"2009-11-13T08:54:13","date_gmt":"2009-11-13T13:54:13","guid":{"rendered":"6047ff76-081a-4486-a897-32dd351661db"},"modified":"2009-11-13T08:54:13","modified_gmt":"2009-11-13T13:54:13","slug":"suggestions-abound-for-cutting-national-health-care-costs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/41392","title":{"rendered":"Suggestions Abound For Cutting National Health Care Costs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two publications looked at the problem of rising health costs and ways to try to &#8220;bend the curve.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In a cover story, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessweek.com\/magazine\/content\/09_47\/b4156034717852.htm\">BusinessWeek<\/a> reports: &#8220;None of the health-care reform bills on the table in Washington do anything meaningful to address that wasted $700 billion.&#8221; The magazine lists 10 ways to cut costs, including:\u00a0&#8220;develop a healthy workforce,&#8221; &#8220;coordinate care through family doctors,&#8221; &#8220;get patients to take their medicine,&#8221;\u00a0&#8220;discuss options near the end of life&#8221;\u00a0and &#8220;use insurance to manage chronic disease&#8221; (Arnst, 11\/12).<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <a href=\"http:\/\/prescriptions.blogs.nytimes.com\/2009\/11\/12\/who-can-bend-the-curve\/\">The New York Times<\/a> writes: &#8220;Which should we trust to rein in health care costs: the federal government or the private sector?\u00a0 Seeking to make the case for less government involvement in health care, a brief analysis (PDF) by the Joint Economic Committee\u2019s ranking Republican, Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas &#8230; concluded that countries with primarily government-run systems often do a worse job controlling cost growth than does the United States.
