{"id":415459,"date":"2010-03-10T21:32:00","date_gmt":"2010-03-11T02:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/chinese-ppi-running-at-red-hot-54-2010-3"},"modified":"2010-03-10T21:32:00","modified_gmt":"2010-03-11T02:32:00","slug":"chinese-ppi-running-at-red-hot-5-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/415459","title":{"rendered":"Chinese PPI Running At Red-Hot 5.4%"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>China&#8217;s PPI is running red hot:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.shanghaidaily.com\/sp\/article\/2010\/201003\/20100311\/article_430856.htm\">Shanghai Daily<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The producer price index (PPI), a major measure of inflation at the wholesale level, rose 5.4 percent in February from a year earlier, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) announced today.<\/p>\n<p>It quickened from 4.3 percent in January this year, and 1.7 percent in December 2009, when the figure posted the first monthly rise since December 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Has the PBOC already blown it?<\/p>\n<p>A report put out earlier, before this data was released, by our friends at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.waverlyadvisors.com\/\">Waverly Advisors<\/a> says yes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">China&#8217;s trade data for February provided compelling evidence that policy makers waited <br \/>too long to begin tightening credit.&nbsp; Despite the successive PBOC reserve increases in&nbsp; <br \/>January and February and the impact of the long Lunar New Year holiday &#8211;which draws <br \/>millions of migrant workers away from their jobs for weeks to return home,&nbsp; the figures <br \/>showed dramatic gains. Total exports increased by 46% year-over-year while imports <br \/>increased by 45% over February 2009.&nbsp; Urban residential property prices meanwhile <br \/>increased by nearly 11% for the month while automotive sales posted a 46% Y\/Y <br \/>increase<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.businessinsider.com\/image\/4b9856127f8b9a806cc50200-559-361\/chart.png\" border=\"0\" alt=\"chart\" width=\"559\" height=\"361\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&nbsp;Simply put, the PBOC &#8216;s tightening moves were too little, too late with total new loans in <br \/>February potentially exceeding 700 billion Yuan according to China Securities Journal. <br \/>This evening&#8217;s CPI and PPI releases will provide more data and, with consensus estimates <br \/>hovering between 2.5 and 3% Y\/Y for consumer prices, any surprise may well spur more <br \/>dramatic action than we have seen to date.&nbsp; Even if inflation numbers do register inside <br \/>consensus however, it still seems likely that another reserve level increase will be put into <br \/>effect this month.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/apps\/quote?ticker=SHCOMP%3AIND\">The Shanghai Composite<\/a> is up modestly &#8212; not reflecting any worries that central bankers may seek to tighten further on the news.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forexlive.com\/92990\/all\/china-the-nbs-released-the-following-data-for\">ForexLive<\/a> has a nice rundown of the full data set here that&#8217;s been released.
