And they found that the group that exer<span>cised had more long-lasting benefits than those that took antidepressants. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Why? Exercise increases the release of endorphins and the mood-enhancing\u00a0neurotransmitter serotonin in the brain, the same chemicals that antide<span>pressants manipulate to make you feel better. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Researchers also discovered that during exercise there is an increase in\u00a0brain emission of alpha waves that are associated with a relaxed, medita<span>tion-like state.
