{"id":416891,"date":"2010-03-11T14:10:48","date_gmt":"2010-03-11T19:10:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.greenrightnow.com\/?p=9792"},"modified":"2010-03-11T14:10:48","modified_gmt":"2010-03-11T19:10:48","slug":"ny-botanical-garden-opens-midtown-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mereja.media\/index\/416891","title":{"rendered":"NY Botanical Garden opens Midtown education"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>From Green Right Now Reports<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When the New York Botanical Garden opens its new education center in Midtown Manhattan next month, city dwellers will have better access to horticulture and floral design classes.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_9796\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\" style=\"width: 190px\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-9796 \" title=\"panel-midtown\" src=\"http:\/\/www.greenrightnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/panel-midtown.jpg\" alt=\"panel-midtown\" width=\"180\" height=\"105\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">The new NY Botanical Society Education Center will be in an 18th Century building near Grand Central Terminal<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The  New York Botanical Garden Midtown Education Center, located at 20 W. 44th Street (between 5th and 6th avenues), will offer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nybg.org\/adulted\/?utm_source=Listrak&amp;utm_medium=Email&amp;utm_term=http%3a%2f%2fwww.nybg.org%2fadulted%2f&amp;utm_content=bkessler%40greenrightnow.com&amp;utm_campaign=Press+Release%3a+Botanical+Garden+Opens+New+Midtown+Education+Center\" >adult education and professional courses <\/a>that could lead to green jobs or help further the goals of urban gardeners, florists and locavores.<\/p>\n<p>Among the inaugural offerings will be the Lynden B. Miller Lecture Series: The Challenges and  Rewards of Urban Horticulture. Hosted by  New York Botanical Garden Board Member and Director of the Conservatory Garden in Central Park Lynden B. Miller, the three-part series will give guidance to those interested in growing their own produce, greenery and flowers; and it will highlight the successful practices of New York\u2019s notable public horticulturists.<\/p>\n<p>The series lectures, on Wednesdays, from 6 to 7 p.m., will include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Up in the Air: Lessons in Urban Horticulture from the  High Line<\/strong>, April 21, with Patrick Cullina, Vice President of  Horticulture and Park Operations, the High Line<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li> <strong>Our Future, Our Food: The Role of Community Gardens in  Urban Agriculture<\/strong>, May 19, with Karen Washington, community activist  and gardener, and Member of the Botanical Garden\u2019s Board<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li> <strong>Battery Park City: Maintaining a Public Park with  Organic Methods<\/strong>, June 9, with Eric T. Fleisher, Director of  Horticulture at Battery Park City Parks  Conservancy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The center also will offer lectures in garden and floral design with area experts, such as Ken Smith, the artist and landscape architect who designed the award-winning roof garden at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).<\/p>\n<p>Those who want to learn more can attend the center&#8217;s open house on Saturday, April 10, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>The New York Botanical Garden, located in the Bronx, offers seven certificate programs in the botanical arts and horticulture.
