Maserati and Fiat are both developing a new platform family for the brand and will also share the new platform with new, high-end, rear-wheel-drive Alfa Romeo vehicles. The new platform will underpin the next-generation Quattroporte sedan and the GranTurismo coupe and convertible, according to a report by Inside Line<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Insiders say that the new platform will have “high aluminum content” to reduce weight of current Maserati models. It will also be capable of accommodating the hybrid drivetrains.<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Alfa Romeo will be using the new platform to offer new rear-wheel-drive models, including a new coupe and convertible to replace the 8C Competizione.<\/p>\n

The current 8C, which uses Maserati components, is built at Maserati’s Modena factory.<\/p>\n
